Palliative Medicine - Princess Margaret Cancer Center - 12-07-05-001

Palliative Care Unit, Palliative Care clinics, inpatient and outpatient consultations in an interprofessional setting.  Students are exposed to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of caring for palliative patients.

Exposure to pain and symptom management using a biopsychosocial spiritual model of comprehensive care.  Opportunities are provided for exploring skills and appropriate attitudes in End-of-Life care.  A case-based approach is used.  Advance care planing discussions occur routinely.  Opportunities for participating in family meetings, situations of breaking bad news, and to discuss complex issues in decision-making, ethics are frequently available.  Students are encouraged to explore personal experiences, attitudes, cultural and religious beliefs in a safe environment in order to delineate the impact on decision-making.
